Steve and Renee were great to work with! Very professional and realistic. Gave no false expectations or predictions. They communicated everything to us in a timely manner. We will definitely use them again if ever needed! Thank you, Steve and your team!

Kara

For my family law case, Steve Smith had a very strong presence and was dominant in the courtroom. The manner in which he carries out cases is something you see in the movies. He was really animated and passionate about my case. His military background is a big asset, and he really helped me out. I would highly recommend him.

Chad

We hired Leah M. Baldacci for a family law case and she was so extremely helpful and got me through my case. She’s very professional and takes the time to listen to her clients. She’s a wonderful advocate and a fantastic attorney. If you’re looking for a great attorney, I recommend Leah. Thank you so much for your legal help.

Anonymous Client

I’ve hired Steve for two cases, and I am very pleased with my decision. He fights for his clients and strives for the best outcome. His entire staff is pleasant and wonderful to work with.

Amber

I hired Steve for a parental rights case involving my 2 children. He was aggressive but supportive and did not file unnecessary motions that wasted my retainer. I was terrified of court, but with his experience, I felt at ease. The process was explained, and his staff was great as well. I would hire him again if needed and received a great outcome with an order that works for me and my children.

Maine Sex Abuse Attorney

Some Divorces or Parental Rights Matters involve serious situations, where either an adult or a child is the victim of a sex crime.

If you or your child is a victim of a sex crime, a Family Law Trial Lawyer can help you petition the Court for Protection from Abuse during the pendency of your underlying Divorce or Parental Rights Matter. During a Protection from Abuse Hearing, you must demonstrate to the Court that you were subjected to “abuse.” According to Maine Legislature, abuse includes the following:

  • Unlawful sexual contact
  • Visual sexual aggression against a child
  • Solicitation of a child to commit a prohibited act
  • Unlawful sexual touching
  • Prohibited contact with a minor (sexual offender restricted zone)
  • Sexual abuse of minors
  • Sexual misconduct with a child under 14 years old
  • Gross sexual assault
  • Solicitation of a child to engage in prostitution

Sexual Act

A “sexual act” includes the following:

  • The transfer or transmission of semen upon any part of the clothed or unclothed body of the depicted person
  • Masturbation
  • Urination within a sexual context
  • Bondage or sadomasochism in any sexual context
  • Simulated sexual acts

Revenge Porn

With the growing use of technology, “revenge porn” is an increasingly prevalent crime. Revenge Porn is the unauthorized dissemination of private images with the intent to harass, torment, or threaten the depicted person when depicted person is identifiable from the image itself and has not consented to the dissemination, display, or publication of the private images. The unauthorized dissemination of certain images is a Class D crime and is considered “abuse” for the purposes of a Protection from Abuse Complaint.

Sex Trafficking

A person engages in sex trafficking when that person knowingly:

  • Promotes prostitution by compelling a person to enter into, engage in, or remain in prostitution
  • Promotes prostitution of a person less than 18 years old
  • Promotes prostitution of a person who suffers from a mental disability

A person can be coerced into prostitution by the use of drugs or other intoxicating substances, withholding a scheduled drug or alcohol from a drug- or alcohol-dependent person, or making false statements, withholding, confiscating, or destroying a passport or other immigration documents.

The presence of Sex Crimes in a Family Law case is serious. A skilled Family Law Trial Lawyer will help you petition the Court to protect you and your child’s interest.
